As many of you know, last year a severe bacterial infection that turned into septicemia nearly took my life. It did take my right leg below the knee. Since I don’t have medical insurance, a prosthetic leg was out of the question.
With my partner’s help, it’s taken me many months to recover my strength and my health. The last year has seen many struggles and battles, and many obstacles to overcome. Now I’m more than ready to get out of this wheelchair!
I’m trying to raise $6500 to buy my first prosthetic leg. This amount will cover the instrument maker’s fees, consults, and a functional leg. I’ll still have to pay close to $130 each way to visit his office in Leeuwarden, a city about 20 miles away (we don’t have a car), so hopefully this amount will help with that expense as well.
The thing I want most? To go outside, and simply take a walk around the block for the first time in over a year.
